The Secret Speakeasys: The Inspiration for The Devils Cut

Speakeasy bars emerged in the United States during the Prohibition era from 1920 to 1933, when the sale, production, and transportation of alcoholic beverages were illegal. These clandestine establishments were often hidden behind unmarked doors, disguised as legitimate businesses, or accessed through secret passwords to evade law enforcement. The term “speakeasy” is said to originate from patrons being advised to “speak easy” or quietly to avoid drawing attention. Speakeasies became a symbol of the Roaring Twenties, fostering a vibrant underground culture of jazz, flappers, and a rebellious spirit. Today, speakeasies have experienced a revival, blending nostalgic charm with modern mixology in hidden, stylish venues.

Fast forward to this century, our very own speakeasy bar was born, The Devils Cut. Taking inspiration from prohibition era 1920s America, we created a fabulous secret private event venue with a hidden entrance in the main bar of Angels Share hotel – have you found the entrance yet?

To celebrate all things speakeasy, we are hosting a fabulous event with Speakeasy Scotland, The Secret Speakeasy, on 27th July from 8pm!

Enjoy a night of great cocktails and fine wine with the wildest old time swing bands in town!

Launching these exciting new sessions are brand new band ‘The Jazz Scoundrels’ and the Devils Music Collective!
